Anyone else hearing about the Q3 headcount reduction whispers?

Is it just my department, or are things feeling weirdly quiet lately? I’ve been hearing rumblings from middle management about a 'strategic realignment' coming before the end of the fiscal year. We’ve seen the news about the broader manufacturing sector slowing down, and it feels like 3M is trying to tighten the belt before the market forces their hand. I haven't seen an official WARN notice or anything concrete, but the vibe in the office is definitely shifting. People are staying late just to look busy, and the usual chatter about upcoming product roadmaps has died down significantly. My manager was extremely vague when I asked about our team’s budget for next quarter. Has anyone else gotten a 'heads up' from their skip-levels, or are we just collectively paranoid because of how bad the tech market looks right now? I'm trying to figure out if it's time to polish the resume or if this is just standard corporate end-of-year anxiety.

The rumors have been circulating for weeks now. Every time leadership mentions 'strategic realignment,' it’s code for a headcount reduction. I've noticed the same eerie quiet in my wing, and nobody is really talking openly about it yet. It’s exhausting watching the office culture deteriorate while we all wait for the other shoe to drop. If you're seeing people padding their hours just to look busy, that’s usually a sign that the anxiety is hitting everyone. Just keep your resume updated and stay under the radar until the official word comes down.

I wouldn't hold your breath for a WARN notice until the very last second. 3M has a long history of managing these things quietly to prevent a mass exodus before they hit their target numbers. The sector is definitely cooling off, and it's clear they want to trim the fat to appease shareholders before the end of the year. It’s a miserable way to operate, but don't take the silence personally. Honestly, if you have a bad feeling, trust your gut and start looking at options elsewhere before the market gets even more crowded.
