Hearing whispers about restructuring - anyone have details?

Okay, I'm going to throw this out there because the silence is louder than any announcement. I've been hearing more than just idle gossip about potential organizational changes and 'streamlining' at 3M. It's vague, of course, but the keywords are popping up more frequently in conversations that usually avoid such topics. Someone mentioned that certain R&D groups might be consolidated, and there's been a freeze on external hiring in a few key areas. I'm in one of the tech-focused business units, and we've definitely felt the pinch with resources. It's easy to dismiss rumors, but when you see multiple independent mentions of 'restructuring' or 'efficiency drives,' it starts to paint a picture. Has anyone been in a meeting or heard from a trusted source that can shed some light on what's actually going on? Trying to prepare myself mentally, and maybe professionally, if something bigger is brewing. The lack of official communication is making everyone jumpy.

I'm not directly involved in the discussions, but I've also picked up on the 'streamlining' buzz. It feels like more than just standard efficiency drives. Heard from a colleague in supply chain that they're reviewing some long-term vendor contracts with a fine-tooth comb, which could indicate a broader cost-saving push or perhaps a shift in strategic priorities. It's all very hush-hush, but the ripple effects could be significant across different departments.

From what I'm hearing on the ground, it seems like they're trying to be proactive about market shifts rather than reactive. The consolidation of R&D sounds plausible, aiming to pool resources and accelerate innovation in key growth areas. The hiring freeze in certain sectors might be a temporary measure to assess where talent is most critically needed post-restructuring. Hoping for clarity soon, as uncertainty impacts morale.
