Hiring freeze rumors? And why is my team's workload spiking?

My manager has been super cagey lately when anyone asks about new hires or backfilling roles. It used to be a pretty straightforward process, but now it's like pulling teeth to get a 'yes' on even basic headcount requests. Meanwhile, our existing workload seems to be ramping up, which is a surefire way to burn people out. I've heard whispers about a de facto hiring freeze across several departments, but nothing concrete. It's got me wondering if they're trying to trim headcount indirectly by just overloading the remaining people until they leave. Anyone else dealing with this weird combination of a hiring slowdown and increased pressure on existing staff? Feels like a bad omen.

Sounds like the same song and dance in my division. My inbox is flooded with projects, and every time I ask about getting more support, I get the 'lean and mean' speech. It's frustrating because we can't possibly hit these new targets without the resources. Makes you wonder what the long-term plan is if the current team is already stretched thin.

I've noticed the same thing. The silence from management on staffing is deafening, and the workload just keeps piling up. It feels like they're prioritizing short-term cost savings over the sustainability of operations. I'm concerned about morale and potential quality drops if this continues much longer. Hope we get some clarity soon.
