Is 3M a stable bet right now? Feeling uneasy.

Hey folks. Been with 3M for a few years now, in one of the manufacturing divisions. Lately, there's just been a weird vibe. Projects getting shelved, budgets tightening, and a general sense of 'hurry up and wait' on things that used to move. Heard some chatter about slowing demand in certain sectors, but nothing concrete. Management is giving us the usual 'business as usual' line, but the unspoken anxiety is palpable. Anyone else in manufacturing seeing similar signs? Trying to get a sense of whether this is a company-wide thing or just my corner of the world. Honestly, just want to know if I should start dusting off the resume or if this is just a temporary dip. Feels like the whole economic climate is shaky, and large companies like ours are often the first to feel the ripple effects. Any insights from fellow 3Mers would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not in manufacturing, but I've noticed a general market slowdown affecting a lot of big industrial players. 3M is pretty diversified, which usually helps, but even they can't be immune to broader economic headwinds. The uneasiness you're feeling might be more than just internal chatter. Keep an eye on their quarterly reports and any analyst commentary that comes out – that's usually where you'll get the clearer picture, even if management tries to put a brave face on things.

That manufacturing vibe sounds concerning. I work in a completely different sector but have seen similar internal shifts in my company – projects stalling and budgets getting squeezed. It feels like a lot of companies are battening down the hatches. While 3M has a strong history, they're not untouchable. If things are feeling off on the ground floor, it often means something is brewing. It's smart to be looking for signs beyond the official communications.
