Is 3M quietly reducing headcount without officially announcing it?

Been feeling this weird vibe for a few months now. My department has had a few people leave, and they haven't been replaced. At the same time, our projects are still being pushed, and the workload feels heavier than ever. We're constantly being told to 'do more with less' and that 'efficiency' is key. Lots of new initiatives and 'process improvements' being rolled out, but it feels like it's just a way to mask underlying staffing issues. Has anyone else noticed this pattern, especially in the manufacturing or R&D divisions? It's not just a feeling anymore; it feels like a deliberate, slow-burn reduction. Curious if others are in similar boats and what the general sentiment is across the company.

I've been seeing similar things across several teams. It's like they're subtly trimming the fat. People leaving are just… gone. No hiring to replace them, but the expectations remain the same, if not higher. That 'do more with less' mantra is getting old, and frankly, it's unsustainable. Feels like a slow burn, and I'm worried about burnout for those of us left picking up the slack.

This definitely resonates. My team's been understaffed for a while now, and management keeps talking about 'optimizing resources' rather than acknowledging the need for more hands. It creates a lot of pressure to be constantly innovative with how we work, which is fine, but it’s exhausting when you’re already stretched thin. It feels like a way to manage costs without the difficult conversations about layoffs.
