Yeah, sounds like the classic 'do more with less' playbook. At my place, it's been the same song and dance for a couple of years now. They keep talking about 'synergies' and 'leveraging our core competencies,' which usually means fewer people doing the same, or more, work. Honestly, the only way I've managed is by setting really firm boundaries and documenting everything. If a new task comes in, I have to push back and show what I'm already overloaded with. It's not always popular, but it's the only way I haven't completely burned out.
I hear you. It's a tough spot to be in when the demands keep increasing but the resources aren't. Sometimes 'optimizing resources' really does mean they expect you to just magic more time out of thin air. Have you considered talking to your manager about prioritizing tasks? Maybe a frank conversation about what *can* realistically be achieved with the current headcount? If the pipeline is full, perhaps some projects need to be de-scoped or pushed back. It's about managing expectations before they become impossible demands.
