Sudden halt on new hires and role changes?

Hey everyone, I've been at 3M for about 5 years now, and things have felt a bit… off lately. My team was expecting a couple of new hires to help with a big project kicking off next quarter, but suddenly all those requisitions are on hold. HR hasn't given a clear reason, just 'budgetary review.' On top of that, a few internal transfers that were already approved have been indefinitely postponed. Has anyone else encountered this? It feels like more than just a standard budget cycle. Feels like maybe they're bracing for something.

Yeah, hearing similar things across the board. The whispers about a broader restructuring or slowdown seem to be gaining traction. The 'budgetary review' excuse feels pretty thin when major project hires and transfers get frozen overnight. It's definitely creating a lot of uncertainty and anxiety, not to mention throwing a wrench in crucial project timelines. Hopefully, we get some actual clarity soon rather than just more vague pronouncements.

My department just got word too. Seems like the new hires for our initiative are definitely on ice, and a couple of key equipment upgrades we were counting on are now facing 'delays.' The mood here is pretty tense. It’s making it hard to plan anything long-term when the ground feels so unstable. Anyone have any insights on what might be driving this beyond just a typical budget scrub? The scale of it feels different.
