Workload up, headcount down, but no official word? What gives?

Seriously, what is going on at 3M right now? My team's project pipeline is overflowing, we're constantly being asked to do more with less, and yet, there's been zero official communication about any layoffs. No all-hands, no emails, nothing. It feels like we're being set up for something. The workload has been steadily increasing for months, and meanwhile, I haven't seen any new hires, and a few key roles on my team are still open after people left. It’s beyond frustrating to be drowning in work and constantly wondering if our jobs are even secure, especially with all the noise out there about other companies. Is anyone else experiencing this weird silence combined with intense pressure? Trying to figure out if this is a company-wide thing or just my division.
