Anyone hearing whispers about Q3 headcounts?

I’ve been with the company for a few years now and I’m starting to get that uneasy feeling. We’ve seen some projects get pushed out and there’s been a lot of talk about ‘optimizing overhead’ during the regional calls lately. Management loves using that phrase right before they start handing out the pink slips. I’ve noticed a few open reqs that were supposed to be filled weeks ago have suddenly gone silent or disappeared from the portal entirely. Is it just me being paranoid, or are things feeling a bit tighter than usual in your neck of the woods? I’m in one of the mid-atlantic branches and it feels like we’re running on a skeleton crew as it is. If they cut any deeper, we’re going to be underwater. Just wanted to see if anyone else is picking up on similar vibes or if corporate is just clamping down on spending for the quarter. Please don't post anything that could doxx you, but I’d appreciate a heads up if your branch is seeing weird management shifts.

I wouldn't call it paranoia at all. When they start scrubbing the job portal without filling those open reqs, it’s usually a massive red flag. I’ve seen this exact cycle at 84 before—they start talking about 'efficiency' and 'streamlining operations' right before the regional managers get their marching orders. Keep your resume polished and start quietly networking now. Better to be prepared and find out it was nothing than to be blindsided when the headcount reduction actually hits. Trust your gut on this one.

Honestly, take a breath. Every quarter people get spooked by corporate speak, but that’s just how they talk to keep investors happy. They have to cut costs somewhere when construction slows down, but that doesn't automatically mean mass layoffs are coming for everyone. I’ve survived three of these 'optimization' phases in my time here, and every single time the rumor mill makes it sound way worse than it turns out to be. Just keep your head down, do your job well, and wait for the actual directive from your supervisor instead of reading too much into a few missing job listings.
