Anyone else notice the hiring freeze? What gives?

Hey everyone, been at AbbVie for a few years now, and lately, things feel… quiet. I've noticed a lot of reqs that were open for months are now suddenly closed or have been 'on hold' indefinitely. Even new roles seem to be getting posted and then vanishing just as quickly. My manager is being super cagey about it, just saying 'resource optimization' or some other corporate buzzword. Feels like more than just normal hiring fluctuations. Anyone else seeing this on their teams or hearing any whispers about why? Is this a sign of something bigger down the line, or just a temporary pause? Trying to get a read on the situation before things get weird.

Yeah, I've definitely seen similar things across my department. It's unnerving when you can't get a straight answer. My team lead mentioned something about shifting priorities and a focus on 'strategic hires' for now, which sounds like code for 'we're not hiring for anything unless it's absolutely critical.' Hopefully, it's a temporary thing and not a sign of bigger issues down the line.

Resource optimization sounds like the standard corporate speak for 'we're cutting costs.' While it's concerning, it's not entirely unexpected given the current economic climate. Many large companies are pulling back on hiring. My advice? Focus on doing your current job well and documenting your achievements. If layoffs do happen, being seen as a valuable contributor will be key. Keep your resume updated just in case.
