Hiring freeze or just super slow onboarding?

We had a few roles open up a couple of months ago that were supposed to be backfilled quickly. They were for critical project needs, but it's been radio silence on them. The recruiters say 'they're still reviewing candidates' or 'budget is being finalized,' but it's been way too long for that. I've also heard whispers from folks in other practices that their departments aren't hiring at all right now, even for backfills. Is there an unofficial hiring freeze going on? It's hard to tell because there's no official announcement, but the lack of new hires and the slow pace of filling existing roles is definitely noticeable. Makes me wonder if they're trying to reduce headcount through attrition and attrition alone. Anyone else seeing this on the hiring front?

Definitely feeling the same way. Applied for a position in January and the recruiter kept saying 'things are moving' but it's been months of radio silence since the initial screens. Meanwhile, I see other roles posted and then quickly taken down, which is confusing. It makes you wonder if they're genuinely swamped with process or if something else is going on behind the scenes. Hope it picks up soon.

Yeah, it's a weird vibe. I’ve heard similar stories from friends in different service lines. Some projects are definitely getting staffed, but it feels very selective and slow. The constant 'budget finalization' excuse is getting old, especially when it's been this prolonged. Makes you question the stability or at least the current hiring strategy. Hopefully, it's just a temporary bottleneck and not a broader issue.
