Performance reviews feel like a setup lately.

I've always aimed to do well in my reviews, and historically, they've been decent. But the last couple of cycles have felt different. It's like there's a checklist of 'areas for improvement' that are incredibly vague, or things I have no control over (like 'stakeholder management' when my stakeholders are impossible to reach). It feels less like constructive feedback and more like building a case for something. I've seen rumors and discussions about workforce adjustments, and while nothing is confirmed, this pattern in my reviews is making me really anxious. Anyone else experiencing this? Feels like I'm being managed out the back door.

I've noticed a shift too. It feels like the metrics have become more rigid and less tied to actual project success. When you're given feedback on things outside your direct influence, it's definitely demoralizing. Makes you wonder if the goal is development or something else entirely.

Yeah, that 'areas for improvement' box feels like it's getting checked regardless of actual performance sometimes. The vagueness is the killer – hard to act on feedback you can't understand or influence. Makes me feel like I need to spend more time documenting my efforts than actually doing the work.
