Project staffing getting tighter?

Been at Accenture for a few years now, and I'm noticing a trend. It feels like projects are being staffed much leaner than they used to be. My current project, which would have had a 'standard' team of maybe 10-12 people a year or two ago, is running with just 7. And it's not just my project; I've talked to a few colleagues on different accounts, and they're reporting similar situations. Less bench time, more pressure on the folks who are staffed. Are they trying to squeeze more out of fewer people, or is this just the new normal for project delivery these days? Makes me wonder about future hiring too if teams are already this lean.

Yeah, I've definitely felt that shift. It's like the 'standard' team size has been redefined downward across the board. More pressure on fewer people means a faster pace, and honestly, it's starting to feel unsustainable in some areas. The constant push for efficiency is definitely visible in team composition.

It's not just you. We've seen similar staffing adjustments. The narrative seems to be about maximizing utilization, which naturally leads to leaner teams. It certainly changes the dynamic – less room for error, and everyone's gotta be firing on all cylinders. Hope it doesn't lead to burnout though.
