Seeing a lot more senior folks on the bench lately

Normally, when people are on the bench, it's the more junior folks who get stuck. But lately, I've noticed a significant increase in senior consultants and even managers who are not staffed on projects. Some have been out for a couple of months now. Is the market for experienced talent drying up, or is the company trying to shed higher salary costs by keeping them unassigned longer? It's making me a bit uneasy, honestly. Are others seeing this trend? Wondering if it's a sign of things to come or just a temporary project pipeline lull.

I've definitely noticed this too, and it's definitely concerning. It feels like projects are getting tighter, and maybe the company is being more selective about who they put on them. It's hard not to worry about job security when you see experienced people sitting out for extended periods. I've been trying to network internally more proactively just in case, but it's a tough climate right now.

Interesting observation. While it's easy to jump to conclusions about market drying up or cost-cutting, could there be other factors? Perhaps a shift in the types of projects available that require different skill sets, or maybe a recent influx of senior hires that hasn't been fully absorbed yet? It's worth considering all angles before assuming the worst. Keep an eye on project pipeline news.
