Utilization targets feel impossible lately

Has anyone else noticed how insane the utilization targets are becoming? It feels like they've been steadily creeping up for the last year, and now they're just completely out of reach for most people I talk to. I'm constantly looking for ways to bill hours, even if it means stretching tasks or taking on busywork. It's exhausting and honestly, it doesn't feel sustainable. Are we expected to just magically find more billable work out of thin air? It's putting a ton of stress on everyone, and I'm worried about what happens when people can't hit these numbers. Feels like a setup for performance improvement plans or worse, without any actual layoffs being announced. Just wondering if this is a widespread thing or if it's just my practice area.

Yeah, the utilization pressure is definitely real. It feels like a constant juggling act between client demands and hitting those internal numbers. The constant hunt for billable hours, even on less critical tasks, does take a toll. It's tough to find that balance between doing good work for the client and satisfying the internal metrics. Hopefully, there's a strategy to address this long-term, because the current pace is a grind.

I hear you. The utilization targets have been a hot topic lately. It seems like the goalposts keep moving, and it creates a lot of anxiety. I've seen people get really creative with how they document their time, which isn't ideal. It's definitely a challenge when the work isn't always there, but the expectation remains the same. Hoping leadership recognizes the strain this is putting on the teams.
