Just got the dreaded 'all hands' invite... smells like layoffs

Got a calendar invite for a company-wide all-hands meeting tomorrow morning. No agenda specified, just 'important company update.' Usually, these are for product launches or major wins. This feels different. The timing is also suspect given the recent news from other big tech players. My gut is screaming that this is going to be 'the talk.' Has anyone else experienced this kind of surprise all-hands before a significant layoff event? How did it play out? Trying to brace myself and figure out what to expect. So many projects are in flux, and hiring has been frozen for months. This feels like the natural, albeit brutal, conclusion. Hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. Fingers crossed it's just a really, really bad Q1 update, but the vibe is off.

Ugh, I've been there. That 'surprise all-hands with no agenda' is textbook. It usually means bad news, unfortunately. When it happened at my old place, the CEO did a whole lot of 'we appreciate your hard work' preamble before dropping the bomb. Just try to stay calm and focus on what you can control. Maybe update your resume just in case, though I hope it's nothing.

Hold on a sec. It *could* be something big and positive. Maybe a massive new client signed, or a groundbreaking new initiative is launching that they can't put in writing yet. Remember that time Google had a surprise all-hands and it turned out they were buying YouTube? Don't let the layoff anxiety get the best of you before you even hear what's going on. Could be good news for once.
