Has anyone noticed the T&E freeze?

Is it just my department, or is everyone being told to strictly limit T&E and overhead charging? My manager was extremely vague when I asked about budget for an upcoming site visit, basically told me to 'hold off until Q4 visibility improves.' We’ve been hitting our utilization targets for months, so this doesn't feel like a standard belt-tightening measure. It feels like they’re trying to inflate the margins ahead of something. Anyone else seeing a clampdown on non-billable hours or travel? Starting to get that familiar pit in my stomach that we’ve all felt before at this firm.

It is definitely happening across the board, not just in your department. I have seen the same freeze on non-billable hours and travel expenses in my division. Management is keeping everything under tight wraps, but the messaging is consistent. They are prioritizing margin protection over everything else right now, and the ambiguity is fueling a lot of frustration. Expect these restrictions to last until the new fiscal quarter at the earliest, as they are clearly desperate to make the numbers look as lean as possible.

Seeing this thread makes me feel a bit better knowing I am not the only one feeling the squeeze. My team has been told that travel is effectively suspended unless it is directly tied to a high-priority, revenue-generating project. It feels like a standard end-of-quarter push, but the intensity this time is noticeably different. Everyone is talking about it, yet leadership is acting like this is just business as usual. We are all just waiting for the other shoe to drop at this point.
