I have noticed the exact same thing. It feels like the corporate pressure has ramped up significantly over the last month. Those emails are definitely shifting from supportive check-ins to something much more transactional and urgent. When I started here, there was a bit more breathing room between projects, but now it feels like you have to be billable every single second or they start circling. It is becoming harder to focus on actual project quality when there is this constant looming threat about utilization metrics hanging over our heads.
Look, it is just business. AECOM is huge, and when the overhead gets too high, leadership is going to tighten the screws on the numbers. I have been through these cycles before, and usually, it is a sign that they are trying to trim the fat before the end of the fiscal period. Do not take the sync meetings personally, but definitely take them seriously. Get your documentation in order, keep your head down, and make sure your internal network knows you are looking for a billable spot immediately.
