Anyone have experience navigating internal transfer possibilities before a layoff?

Throwaway account for obvious reasons. I've been in Risk Ops for a little over 2 years. Things have been... tense. Not hearing direct layoff talk, but the general vibe is off, and the recent earnings call didn't exactly inspire confidence. I'm exploring internal transfer options just in case things go south. Has anyone successfully jumped to another team or role at Affirm in the past when they felt like their current position was shaky? Any advice on how to approach managers in other departments or how to position myself without looking like I'm jumping ship too early? Trying to be proactive here.

Hey, that's a smart move. I've seen people make internal moves before things get dicey. Your best bet is to network like crazy. Reach out to people in teams you're interested in *now*, even if it's just for informational chats. Ask about their projects, what skills are valuable, and what their team is looking for. If you can get a recommendation from someone on the hiring team, that's gold. Focus on highlighting transferable skills that align with what those other departments need, even if it's not a direct match on paper. Good luck, hope it doesn't come to that!

Honestly, it's a tough market right now, and internal transfers can be a lifeline, but don't put all your eggs in that basket. Managers are usually focused on their own team's performance and hitting their own targets. Unless you have a really strong connection or can clearly demonstrate how you'd immediately add value to *their* team, it can be a hard sell. Start by updating your internal profile and aggressively applying through the official channels. If you get an interview, be prepared to articulate why you're a better fit than external candidates. Keep your resume updated externally too, just in case.
