Oh wow, that's definitely unsettling. I'd be bugging HR nonstop if I were you. Don't just brush it off as misremembering – it's your livelihood! Maybe it's a clerical error or some weird tax adjustment? Definitely worth getting a clear explanation from them, in writing if possible. Keep us updated on what you find out, I'm curious now too.
Hold on a second. Are you absolutely positive you're not misremembering? These systems can be confusing, and maybe there was a different figure you were looking at previously. Before you start panicking or accusing the company, I'd suggest pulling up old pay stubs or offer letters if you have them. A slightly different number could be related to anything from benefits deductions to a long-forgotten company-wide adjustment. Double-check everything before jumping to conclusions.
