How to 'spin' Affirm experience for a resume post-layoff?

Okay, let's just say I'm planning ahead. If things go south here, what's the best way to frame my time at Affirm on a resume? I've been in a [redacted] role for about 2.5 years. We've done some cool stuff, but a lot of it feels very 'Affirm-specific' and might not translate easily to other companies. I want to highlight the impact without sounding like I'm bragging or, worse, sounding like I was part of something that failed. Any tips from people who've been through this at other fintechs? What achievements should I focus on? How do I explain the company's situation without sounding negative?

Focus on transferable skills. Instead of saying 'Managed the BNPL lifecycle using proprietary Affirm systems,' frame it as 'Led cross-functional teams to optimize customer onboarding processes, resulting in a X% reduction in processing time.' Highlight achievements in areas like data analysis, project management, risk assessment, or customer experience improvement. Quantify your impact whenever possible – numbers speak louder than industry jargon. Emphasize your adaptability and ability to learn complex systems quickly. That's always valuable, regardless of the company's specific product.

Honestly, it depends on the role you're applying for. If it's another fintech, they'll likely understand the context of Affirm's operations. If it's a more traditional company, you'll definitely need to translate. Think about the core business problems you were solving. Were you improving efficiency? Reducing risk? Enhancing customer acquisition? Frame your accomplishments around those broader business objectives. Avoid buzzwords specific to Affirm's internal tools or unique business model unless you can clearly explain their value in more general terms. Good luck with the planning!
