Is anyone else seeing a hiring freeze taking hold?

Been trying to get a couple of critical roles on my team approved for weeks now, and it's gone completely silent. HR just keeps saying 'we're reviewing headcount' but it feels like a soft freeze. No new open reqs popping up externally either, at least not that I can see. Used to be we could get things approved in days. Makes planning for next year really tough when you don't know if you'll even have the people to execute. Anyone else in similar boats? Are they opening up new roles in certain areas or is it a full stop everywhere?

Yeah, I'm seeing the same thing at Affirm. It's definitely more than just a 'review.' My manager mentioned a pause on all non-essential hiring a few weeks back, and we haven't heard anything since. It's frustrating because we're already stretched thin, and this makes hitting our Q4 goals look pretty dicey. Hopefully, it's a short-term thing and they'll loosen up soon, but it feels like a real belt-tightening across the board right now. Good luck getting those roles approved!

That 'reviewing headcount' line is code for 'no.' I've been through this before at previous companies. When they go silent, it means the budget just isn't there, or they're waiting for a bigger picture strategy shift before committing to new hires. Don't hold your breath on those critical roles unless they're directly tied to revenue generation or a major strategic initiative. Focus on what you *can* control - maybe look at contract roles or upskilling existing team members in the meantime? It's tough, but planning around the current reality is key.
