Layoff Rumors - Why does it feel inevitable?

I've been at Affirm for almost 4 years, in the partnerships team, and the general vibe lately is just...awful. It's not one specific thing, more like a death by a thousand cuts. Travel budgets are slashed, everyone's suddenly hyper-focused on 'efficiency', and my skip-level keeps asking about my team's 'key performance indicators'. Individually, whatever. But all together, it screams 'preparing for layoffs'. Anyone else feeling this way? I'm updating my resume just in case, but I really like my job (most days). How are people coping with the uncertainty?

Yeah, that sounds eerily familiar to my last job right before a major layoff. The 'efficiency' push is always a huge red flag. Start networking now, even if you like your job. It's always good to have options lined up and be proactive. Don't wait until it actually happens, then you're scrambling.

Honestly, it could be just normal belt-tightening in this economy. Tech companies are under pressure to show profitability. But, your intuition is probably right. Just be smart. Document your accomplishments, update that resume, and quietly feel out other opportunities. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
