The freeze on backfills is honestly the clearest indicator that the headcount reduction isn't stopping anytime soon. I’ve seen two roles in my department pulled just days before candidates were supposed to start, despite the work clearly piling up. It’s a classic strategy—wait for the attrition to hit, freeze the openings, and then redistribute the remaining workload without having to pay severance. Don't expect any of those requisitions to open back up this fiscal year. The leadership is clearly focused on protecting the margin numbers at any cost to the current staff.
I wouldn't hold your breath on any of those roles getting unblocked. When leadership starts talking about 'streamlining,' it’s essentially the green light to leave positions vacant indefinitely. My manager basically told us to forget about backfilling the vacancies we’ve had for a month; the official line is that we need to 're-prioritize,' which is just code for sucking it up and absorbing the extra duties. It’s a rough time to be sitting in a desk at Agilent right now, especially with the constant uncertainty hanging over every project team.
