Performance review cycle felt...different this time.

So, the annual performance reviews just wrapped up for my team. For the first time in my tenure here, it felt really tense and almost like a data-gathering exercise for something else. We always get feedback, but this year it was a lot more about 'quantifiable impact' and 'critical contributions' in a way that felt less about development and more about justification. My skip-level was unusually detailed in asking about individual team member's contributions over the last 18 months. Just me or did anyone else experience this heightened scrutiny during their review? Makes me wonder what's brewing behind the scenes.

Yeah, I've noticed a similar vibe creep in over the last year or so, not just at Agilent but at a few other places I've worked. It feels like companies are really scrutinizing every role and every person's output, probably due to market pressures or restructuring. Focusing on 'quantifiable impact' is definitely the buzzword. It's tough when it feels less like development and more like you're building a case for your own existence. Keep your documentation tight, I guess.

That's definitely not just you. I've heard similar whispers from folks in different departments. The 'justification' angle is concerning, for sure. It makes you wonder what the ultimate goal is. Are they trying to identify top performers for promotions, or are they looking for reasons to... trim? I'd advise keeping a very accurate record of your accomplishments and any positive feedback you've received, just in case. Better safe than sorry.
