It's definitely not just you. I've been seeing the exact same patterns in my department. The talk about streamlining is always a red flag, and the silence on backfills is the clearest indicator of where things are heading. The atmosphere has shifted from collaborative to noticeably tense almost overnight. Most people I speak with are already quietly polishing their resumes because nobody believes the official line about just improving efficiencies anymore. It feels like we are all waiting for the other shoe to drop.
I think everyone is feeling the pressure, but management is doing a great job at keeping us in the dark. The project freezes are particularly concerning because they usually signal that budget reallocation is already happening behind closed doors. It is frustrating to work in such an environment where the internal goals keep shifting without any transparency from the top. Honestly, at this point, I’m just focusing on my own output and staying prepared for whatever structural changes they decide to announce next month.
