AIG - Management communication feels hollow lately

Anyone else feel like the town halls have been completely devoid of substance lately? It’s all high-level 'growth' and 'synergy' buzzwords, but when someone asks about budget constraints or resource allocation, they just pivot immediately. I’ve been through a few of these cycles at other firms, and this pattern is usually a precursor to some kind of restructuring. My department has seen a weird shift where hiring requisitions are suddenly getting pulled after the interview process is already underway. It’s frustrating because we’re clearly understaffed, yet the approval process has become a black hole. It’s getting hard to stay motivated when you have no idea if your team is going to exist in six months. If you’ve heard of any 'optimization' plans affecting specific regions or business units, please share.

I’ve noticed the exact same thing in my department. It feels like they’re reading from a script written by consultants who have never actually done the work we do. When you strip away the corporate jargon about 'synergy' and 'strategic alignment,' there is absolutely nothing left. The silence on budget cuts is the loudest part of the whole presentation. Every time someone asks a pointed question, the deflection is so obvious it’s painful. It’s hard to stay motivated when leadership treats us like we aren't smart enough to read between the lines.

You aren't imagining things. Those pulled requisitions are a classic red flag. I saw the same behavior right before a massive round of layoffs at my previous firm. Management loves to talk about 'growth' and 'streamlining' right up until the moment they drop the hammer. If they are already freezing headcounts after you’ve wasted hours interviewing candidates, they are clearly trying to balance the books for the next quarter. Keep your resume updated and start networking outside the company now; don't wait for the official email to tell you that your role has been 'optimized.'
