AIG - What's the deal with hiring freezes?

So, I've noticed a distinct lack of new hires in my area at AIG. Not just that, but it feels like my team's been told to stretch our current resources as thin as possible. We're constantly being asked to take on more with less, and the justification always seems to be 'efficiency' or 'streamlining.' It's starting to feel like a soft hiring freeze or a way to test the waters for future headcount reductions. We had a recent 'talent optimization' webinar that was pretty vague but made me nervous. Has anyone else seen this? Are open reqs disappearing or getting put on hold? Curious if this is a widespread AIG thing or just a localized issue. Trying to gauge the general mood and see if others are feeling this squeeze. Any info would be appreciated.

It's definitely a concerning trend. We're seeing similar things in other departments – workloads increasing without a corresponding increase in personnel. The 'efficiency' talk can only go so far before it impacts actual productivity and morale. The 'talent optimization' sessions sound like corporate speak for potential cuts. I'm keeping a close eye on announcements and trying to document everything to understand the full picture before it impacts my own role.**
