Comp discussion – seeing a lot of internal movement but what about external?

Curious to hear what folks are seeing regarding compensation. Obviously, the general tech market is a bit wild right now. But internally at Airbnb, I'm hearing about a lot of role changes and some internal re-leveling happening. It makes me wonder if we're seeing a more targeted approach to compensation adjustments rather than broad market-rate increases. What are people seeing for external offers in similar roles? Are recruiters still making competitive offers, or have you seen a noticeable dip? Trying to get a pulse on whether the internal comp discussions are reflective of the broader market or if there's a different strategy at play. It's hard to gauge without concrete data points, and frankly, it's a source of stress for many. Any insights on recent offers, or even anecdotal data from colleagues who have moved roles externally, would be super helpful. Trying to understand the landscape better.

I'm seeing similar things internally. Lots of internal shuffling, promotions, and re-leveling. It feels like they're trying to retain talent by adjusting things internally rather than throwing money at every incoming offer. I haven't seen many external offers myself recently, but I'd be curious to hear if anyone has concrete data points on what recruiters are offering for similar roles outside the company. The market is definitely weird, and it's hard to gauge where we actually stand.

Honestly, I'd take the internal movement with a grain of salt. Sometimes that's just restructuring to manage budgets or fill gaps. The real test is always the external market. If recruiters aren't making competitive offers, it signals a potential shift in how the company views its compensation strategy overall. Don't rely solely on internal whispers; keep an eye on those external numbers. If they're dipping, it might be time to update your resume and see what's out there.
