I'm in Engineering, and things feel similar here. The sudden push for 'efficiency' is definitely a red flag. Remember back in 2020 when they did the same thing right before the big layoff? I'd start updating your resume, just in case. Better to be prepared than caught off guard. Good luck!
Honestly, this happens every quarter. They always get nervous about numbers and start tightening the belt. I wouldn't freak out just yet. The VP probably has a family thing or is working on a big project. Let's see what happens after the next earnings call before jumping to conclusions. Maybe they will send out a company-wide email before doing a mass layoff to be more empathetic this time.
