Anyone else feeling the 'synergy' pressure lately?

Is it just me, or is the air in the corporate offices getting heavy again? Ever since the Kroger merger talk started dragging on, it feels like leadership is obsessed with finding 'efficiencies' under every rock. I’ve noticed a lot more scrutiny on project budgets and a sudden freeze on backfilling positions in my department. It’s that familiar, quiet tension where people stop joking around in Slack and everyone suddenly has their LinkedIn status set to 'open to work' on the low. I haven't heard any official word about RIFs, but the lack of transparency is starting to give me major anxiety. Are you guys seeing similar headcount freezes in your regions, or is my division just being gutted quietly? I really don't want to go through another cycle of 'streamlining' only to end up doing the work of three people for the same paycheck. Would love to hear if anyone in the supply chain or corporate side is seeing the same red flags.

The mood here is definitely shifting. It feels like every meeting now revolves around cutting costs rather than actual growth. You aren't imagining things; the hesitation to backfill roles is a classic precursor to structural changes. Most of us are just keeping our heads down and doing the bare minimum while we see how the regulatory hurdles play out. I've already updated my resume and reached out to a few recruiters in the industry just to be safe. It’s better to be prepared for the worst than caught off guard when the restructuring hammer finally drops.

Honestly, it’s refreshing to see someone else point this out. The 'synergy' buzzword has lost all its meaning and has just become code for 'do more with less.' Morale is tanking because we’re all stretched thin waiting for a merger that feels like it’s never going to happen, or worse, one that will leave us obsolete. The silence from upper management isn't helping either; it just fuels the rumor mill. I’ve started networking outside the company, and I’m surprised by how many of my colleagues are doing the exact same thing.
