Hiring freeze rumors gaining traction?

Has anyone else heard that the hiring freeze might be more widespread than we think? I've seen a couple of requisitions I know were open for a while suddenly get pulled, and new roles aren't popping up as much as they used to. My team has an open req that's been active for months, and now it's gone dark. When I asked HR, they gave a pretty generic answer about 're-evaluating needs' but didn't offer much else. It feels like a quiet tightening across the board, even if they're not calling it a 'layoff'. Trying to get a sense of the broader picture here. Are other departments experiencing this?
