Internal transfers seem to be drying up

Curious to see if others have noticed this. I've been looking to move teams internally for a while now, and it feels like the number of open internal roles has significantly decreased over the past quarter. Normally, there's a decent flow, especially with people leaving or expanding teams. Now, it feels like a desert. Couple that with some senior folks I know who are quietly looking externally, and it's starting to feel like the company might be bracing for something. I haven't seen any official layoff announcements, and my team is still busy, but the lack of internal mobility is a definite red flag for me. Has anyone else experienced this slowdown in internal job postings or heard any reasons why?

I've definitely seen a similar trend. It used to be that internal mobility was a pretty active part of career development here, with new opportunities popping up regularly. Lately, though, the postings seem few and far between, and even those that do appear get snapped up incredibly fast or disappear quickly. It's making it harder for people to find growth within the company, and I'm hearing similar whispers about external searches from colleagues as well. Makes you wonder what the strategy is behind the scenes.
