Performance reviews feel a lot more intense lately

Just finished my performance review cycle, and wow, it felt like the bar was set significantly higher this year across the board. Not just for myself, but hearing from colleagues in different teams, the feedback seems to be leaning towards 'needs improvement' or 'exceeds expectations with caveats' much more frequently than before. It’s making me wonder if this is a precursor to something. Managers seem to be documenting everything meticulously. Usually, these reviews are a formality, but this time it felt like they were building a case. Is anyone else experiencing this? It's adding a layer of stress I wasn't expecting, especially when business has felt pretty solid on the surface. Curious if others are seeing this trend and what it might mean.

Definitely feeling the shift. My review was pretty intense too, with a lot more focus on specific metrics and documented examples than I'm used to. It's like they're building a case for everything. Makes you wonder if there's a restructuring or cost-cutting on the horizon. Just gotta keep your head down and focus on hitting those targets, I guess. Stay strong out there.

Interesting you say that, my experience was similar. It feels less like a developmental conversation and more like an audit this year. Lots of detailed questioning and justifications required. I'm chalking it up to the current economic climate and increased scrutiny on every department's efficiency. Maybe it's a company-wide push for higher productivity and accountability. Let's hope it leads to positive changes rather than negative ones.
