Anyone else noticing the hiring freeze?

Is it just my department, or has the silence on backfills become deafening lately? I’ve been watching three open roles on our team sit 'under review' for over two months now. Every time I bring it up to my manager, they just give me this rehearsed line about 'optimizing headcount efficiency.' It feels like we are being set up for a quiet reduction without the official announcement. I’ve been here for four years and the vibe is starting to feel exactly like it did right before the last round of restructuring. We’re losing people to attrition, but instead of replacing them, the work is just being piled onto the remaining staff. Is anybody else seeing this at their site? I’m starting to get my resume updated just in case the shoe drops before year-end.

It is definitely not just your department. I have been tracking the career portal for my division, and it is a ghost town. Roles that were posted back in Q1 have completely vanished without any explanation, and management has stopped even acknowledging the open headcount in our weekly syncs. The 'optimizing efficiency' talk is just corporate speak for cost-cutting to make the quarterly numbers look better for the shareholders. Everyone is on edge, and the lack of transparency is honestly making the best talent look for the exit before things get even worse.

Same boat here. My team is currently operating at 60% capacity, and we have been told for months that backfills are coming, but nothing ever materializes. I had an internal recruiter reach out to me about a position last month, and then they ghosted me once I asked if the role was actually budgeted. It feels like they are squeezing every last drop of productivity out of us before they decide to pull the plug. If you have been here four years, you know the drill; keep your resume updated and do not wait for them to decide your fate for you.
