Anyone else getting weird vibes after the last town hall?

Is it just me, or did the tone shift significantly during the last all-hands? Usually, leadership is all about the pipeline and long-term vision, but this felt a lot more focused on 'operational efficiency' and 'realigning resources.' I’ve been here for a few years and that’s usually code for something getting trimmed behind the scenes. We haven’t had any official announcements, but the rumor mill in the R&D groups is working overtime. People are definitely nervous. I’ve noticed a few project timelines being pulled back and some hiring freezes that were never explicitly communicated to the broader team. Has anyone heard anything concrete, or is this just standard biotech industry paranoia? I’m trying to decide if I should start polishing the resume now or wait until the next quarterly update. It feels like the atmosphere in the office has just been getting quieter and more tense over the last month. Would love to hear if anyone in the other departments is seeing similar trends or if I’m just reading too much into the current macro climate.

You’re not imagining it. The shift in language from innovation-led to 'efficiency-focused' is a classic red flag in biotech. We’ve all seen this cycle before—the pivot toward leaner operations almost always precedes a round of restructuring. When leadership stops talking about the science and starts stressing resource reallocation, it’s time to pay attention. The silence from management is probably just a legal buffer, but the lack of transparency is clearly wearing everyone down. Keep your resume updated and watch for which R&D projects are suddenly getting less budget or 'deprioritized' in the next few weeks.
