Quiet hiring freeze or something more?

Is it just me, or has the atmosphere at the Alewife campus turned completely toxic lately? I’ve noticed a massive slowdown in our department’s project approvals, and managers are suddenly acting cagey during 1:1s. Usually, we have a clear roadmap for the upcoming quarter, but now it’s just vague 'prioritization' talk every time someone asks about budget. We’ve been burning cash on these R&D pivots, and I can’t help but feel like the C-suite is getting ready to trim the fat before the end of the fiscal year. A few of the directors stopped being responsive to Slack messages entirely, which is a huge red flag. Has anyone heard anything about a potential restructure in the RNAi pipeline? I’ve been polishing my resume just in case, but I’d love to know if I’m just being paranoid or if the writing is actually on the wall.

Same vibe over here in the labs. The lack of transparency is reaching an all-time high, and it’s impossible to ignore the shift in energy. We’ve seen similar patterns before these major restructuring phases, and the 'prioritization' talk is almost always a coded way of saying headcount is on the chopping block. It feels like they are tightening the belt significantly to offset the R&D burn rate, and frankly, I don't think anyone is safe until the quarterly projections are finalized. Keep your head down and start polishing the resume just in case.

You aren't imagining things. Morale is cratering, and the refusal to give straight answers about the budget is a classic precursor to layoffs. It’s incredibly frustrating to be kept in the dark while we’re supposedly 'pivoting' toward new targets. Everyone knows the cash flow concerns are real, and the cagey behavior from leadership confirms that some hard decisions are being made behind closed doors. Honestly, I’m treating every meeting like a potential exit interview at this point. Good luck to everyone holding on.
