Altria: Headcount freeze? Or is this the calm before the storm?

Joining the speculation here. No official word on layoffs at Altria, but it feels like hiring has completely stopped. My team was supposed to bring on a couple of new folks last quarter, and that just...disappeared. Now, even internal transfers seem to be on hold. It makes me wonder if they're already cutting costs quietly by just not backfilling roles that open up naturally. Or worse, if they're preparing for a bigger shake-up down the line. Anyone in a position to know if there's a formal headcount freeze or if we should be worried about broader cuts?

I've been hearing similar murmurs through the grapevine. It definitely feels like the spigot on hiring has been turned off, at least for now. It's understandable why people are getting antsy when you see open requisitions just vanish and internal moves grinding to a halt. It could be a standard cost-saving measure, but the timing certainly fuels the 'calm before the storm' narrative. Hopefully, it's just a temporary pause and not a sign of bigger issues brewing within Altria's strategic plans. We'll have to wait and see how things play out in the coming months.
