What's the deal with the hiring freeze?

Hey everyone, seeing a lot of posts about hiring freezes at other companies, but does anyone have intel if Altria is doing the same? My team's been trying to backfill a couple of open roles for months now, and it feels like they're just sitting empty. HR keeps giving us the runaround, saying 'processes are taking longer.' It's getting really frustrating and impacting our ability to deliver. Is this just our department or is it company-wide? Curious if anyone else is seeing similar slowdowns on the recruitment side. Feels like a bad sign, tbh.

Yeah, definitely feeling the same pain. My team's been waiting on two critical hires since Q1, and the excuse is always the same vague 'streamlining processes.' It's starting to feel like a quiet freeze, or at least a very, very slow process. We're swamped, and the lack of new blood is really stretching us thin. Honestly, it's making me question the company's priorities right now. Seems like they're more focused on cutting costs than investing in the people doing the work.

Heard something similar through the grapevine. Apparently, there's a lot of internal re-evaluation happening regarding headcount and strategic priorities. The 'taking longer' excuse is likely code for 'we're not approving new hires unless absolutely mission-critical, and even then, it's a battle.' My advice? Document everything. Keep pushing through official channels, but also start thinking about how to redistribute workload or automate where possible. It's a tough environment for backfills right now.
