Anyone else feel like Amazon is just chasing shiny objects?

Okay, so another wave of layoffs, this time hitting Florida. The narrative is always about 'long-term priorities' and, you know, investing in the future. But it feels like they're constantly chasing the next big thing, whatever that is, and the cost is always experienced employees. I keep hearing about how they're refocusing on certain areas, but it feels like a constant cycle of hiring, then cutting. It’s unsettling. My buddy who was at Amazon got caught in one of the earlier cuts and is still struggling to find something comparable. The sheer volume of talent being let go is staggering. It’s more than just a business decision; it feels like a cultural shift away from valuing the people who built the company. Anyone else see this pattern and feel as frustrated as I do?

I get what you're saying. It feels like a pendulum swing with them lately. Definitely see that 'shiny object' syndrome playing out. It's almost like they're afraid of missing out on the next tech trend, so they jump in with both feet, and then when it doesn't immediately pan out or a new trend emerges, they pivot hard. That constant churning definitely impacts morale and creates a lot of uncertainty for the people actually doing the work. Hope your buddy lands somewhere solid soon.
