Yeah, I'm feeling that too. My org isn't explicitly freezing hiring, but it feels like every requisition is getting scrutinized with a microscope. We had a couple of senior roles open up that seemed like no-brainers, but they've been stuck in 'approval pending' for weeks. It's definitely created a bit of a bottleneck for some critical initiatives. Hopefully, it's just a temporary belt-tightening and not a sign of bigger issues down the line. Keep your ears to the ground.
My experience is the opposite. We just onboarded three new engineers last week, and my manager is still talking about bringing on more for Q1. Maybe it's team-dependent or org-specific? Retail tech can be pretty cyclical, right? Could it be tied to specific product roadmaps or market conditions in that segment? I'd try to get more specifics from your manager, even if they're being vague. Sometimes the 'why' can be more telling than the 'what'.
