Amex - Anyone else feeling the headwinds?

Hey all, been at Amex for a few years now in a relatively stable team, but lately, the vibe has been... off. There are definitely whispers and a general sense of unease. People are being a bit quieter in meetings, and there's a noticeable slowdown in approvals for new initiatives, even small ones. I haven't heard any concrete layoff news, and my manager is giving the usual 'business as usual' spiel, but you can just feel it. Anyone else in different departments picking up on the same signals? Is it just the broader economic climate, or is Amex really tightening its belt behind the scenes? Curious to hear if others are seeing similar trends, especially in areas like tech or support functions. Trying to stay optimistic, but it's hard not to worry when the atmosphere feels so uncertain.

Yeah, I'm picking up on similar vibes in my area. Project timelines are stretching out, and there's a lot more scrutiny on budget requests than there used to be. My team lead is also saying everything's fine, but the general atmosphere feels tense. Lots of people seem to be keeping their heads down and focusing on just getting their core work done, which isn't usually the case here. Hoping it's just a temporary blip, but it's hard not to feel a little uneasy.

Interesting to hear others are feeling this too. While I haven't seen direct impacts on my immediate tasks, there's definitely a shift in how things are being communicated. More emphasis on efficiency and cost savings, and fewer 'big picture' discussions about growth. It's subtle, but the overall energy has changed. I've also noticed a bit of a hiring freeze in some departments that were previously quite active. Definitely a different feel than a year ago.
