Amex - Anyone else feeling the heat on 'talent optimization'?

I've been hearing this phrase 'talent optimization' thrown around more frequently in internal meetings and communications at Amex. It sounds like a fancy way of saying they're looking to trim the fat, but I'm not sure if it's going to lead to actual layoffs or just a lot of added pressure and performance management for those who are perceived as not 'optimizing'. My manager's been pushing hard on hitting specific KPIs that feel a bit arbitrary lately. It's making me nervous, especially with the economic outlook. Has anyone else encountered this terminology or seen concrete actions tied to it? Curious if this is a company-wide initiative or specific to certain business units. Trying to stay ahead of any potential changes.

Yeah, 'talent optimization' is definitely the buzzword of the season. Feels a bit like corporate jargon designed to soften the blow of what could be significant restructuring. The focus on KPIs is intense, and if they're not aligned with realistic business goals, it just creates unnecessary stress and anxiety for everyone. Hoping it's more about efficiency drives than outright cuts, but the uncertainty is palpable.

I've noticed the same shift in messaging. It seems like a strategic push to ensure everyone is performing at their peak, or at least perceived to be. The constant monitoring and arbitrary metrics can be demoralizing, and it's natural to feel apprehensive. Let's hope this 'optimization' leads to genuine opportunities for growth and development, rather than just making existing roles more challenging.
