Amex Performance Reviews - Anything to watch out for?

So, performance review season is upon us again at Amex. Usually, it's pretty standard, but with all the talk about economic slowdown and potential cost-cutting, I'm wondering if there's a different angle this year. Has anyone heard anything about review criteria being tightened, or if "meets expectations" is going to be a lot harder to get? I'm not necessarily worried about my own standing, but I'm thinking about how this could impact overall morale and, potentially, who might be on the chopping block if things get rough. Trying to understand if the usual review process is still in play or if we should expect a more scrutinized approach this time around. Any tips on how to navigate this year's reviews, especially if you're in a less critical-facing role?

Definitely a valid concern. The economic climate always casts a shadow over these things. Keep a close eye on how feedback is framed this year. If there's a shift towards more critical language or emphasis on 'efficiency,' that could be a sign. Also, watch for any subtle changes in how 'achievements' are defined or weighted. Staying proactive with documenting your contributions and exceeding goals, even in small ways, is always the best defense.

I haven't heard any specific whispers about Amex tightening performance reviews due to the economy, but it's smart to be thinking ahead. Historically, even in tougher times, they tend to be pretty consistent. My advice? Focus on your direct impact and quantifiable results. If you're clearly demonstrating value and hitting your targets, you should be in a good spot. Don't overthink the 'meeting expectations' hurdle; just keep delivering.
