I am so incredibly sorry for everyone caught in this. It is absolutely gut-wrenching to see people with over a decade of service treated like a line item on a spreadsheet. Amex talks a big game about their 'culture' and taking care of their people, but when things get tough, the mask slips. The uncertainty is the worst part—sitting at your desk wondering if you’re next makes it impossible to focus. Sending strength to everyone in the Columbus office navigating this nightmare right now.
Unfortunately, this is the reality of corporate life nowadays. Leadership loves to use buzzwords like 'streamlining' or 'efficiency' to hide the fact that they are just slashing headcount to appease shareholders. Six hundred people is a massive blow to any local economy, not to mention the individual livelihoods destroyed. If you weren't affected, start updating your resume immediately and treat your network as a priority. Companies like this have no real loyalty to their employees, so you have to prioritize yourself first.
