Layoff concerns at Amex - what's the real story?

Okay, I'm going to put this out there because I know I'm not the only one thinking it. While there haven't been any official announcements or mass email blasts about layoffs at Amex, the recent internal communication has felt very... controlled. Hiring freezes seem to be in effect for many roles, and there's a lot of talk about 'efficiency gains' and 'strategic realignment' in internal meetings. My team's been asked to document all our processes meticulously, which feels like busywork but also could be preparation. I'm in a division that's seen a lot of growth over the past few years, and suddenly it feels like we're being scrutinized. Anyone else have colleagues who have been 'managed out' subtly, or heard anything more concrete about potential cuts? Trying to gauge the real risk here, as the silence from leadership is louder than any announcement would be. Don't want to jump to conclusions, but also don't want to be blindsided. What are people hearing?

I've been hearing similar whispers. The emphasis on process documentation and efficiency gains definitely points to something brewing. While it's easy to dismiss it as standard corporate jargon, the combination of hiring freezes and this internal focus feels like preparation for something bigger. Let's hope it's just a restructuring and not widespread cuts, but the signs are definitely there. It's creating a lot of anxiety for sure.

Honestly, the 'efficiency gains' and 'strategic realignment' language is almost always code for something. I'm not surprised by the hiring freeze either, that's usually the first domino. The meticulous process documentation is a bit odd, though. It could be to identify redundancies, or perhaps just to ensure smooth transitions if roles do get cut. It's a tense atmosphere, no doubt.
