Is the 09/01 WARN notice just the tip of the iceberg?

I’ve been tracking the WARN notices and this recent hit to the Bloomingdale team feels different. It wasn’t a massive 'corporate wide' event, but the timing is suspicious given the current quarterly targets. Is it just me, or does it feel like they’re doing these rolling layoffs to avoid mass notice triggers and keep the internal chatter to a minimum? I’ve been through 'restructurings' before, and this feels exactly like the playbook where they pick off a site, claim it's 'efficiency,' and then repeat the process three months later somewhere else. I'm worried that by the time we hit 2027, the headcount in these industrial divisions is going to look completely different. Anyone else hearing whispers about further site closures before the end of the year? Trying to decide if it’s time to jump ship while the market is still halfway decent.

It’s definitely not just you. That 'efficiency' excuse is the oldest trick in the book to avoid the legal scrutiny that comes with larger layoffs. By slicing off small groups at different sites, they manage to fly under the radar of state regulators and keep everyone else paranoid enough to stay quiet. I’ve seen this exact cycle play out in two other departments over the last year. They want to avoid the bad PR of a mass WARN event at all costs while still hitting those aggressive quarterly margin targets. Watch your back, because the rolling cuts are likely just getting started.

Honestly, the writing has been on the wall for a while. Everyone keeps talking about 'operational synergies,' but we all know that’s just corporate speak for trimming the fat to pump up the share price before the next earnings call. They aren't interested in the people who actually build the products; they’re just looking at spreadsheets and identifying redundant headcount to satisfy the shareholders. Expect more of this throughout the year. It’s a classic squeeze, and unfortunately, being a high performer doesn't protect you when they decide to consolidate an entire site.
