Anyone else seeing the backfill freeze starting to bite?

Is it just my division, or is the 'needs assessment' for backfilling open roles becoming a complete joke? I’ve had three team members leave in the last two months, and HR is stonewalling every single request to post their positions. Management keeps pushing the 'we’re doing more with less' narrative, but it feels like the ramp-up to a larger RIF. The work is just piling up on the rest of us, and nobody is talking about how we’re supposed to hit these Q4 targets without headcount. I’m starting to get that nervous energy I haven’t felt since 2020. Are they trying to artificially inflate the numbers before a cut, or are we just running lean until we snap?

Same situation here in my group. It’s been crickets from leadership regarding backfills for months, even for critical roles. The 'needs assessment' process is clearly just a stalling tactic to avoid calling it a hiring freeze while they prep for the next round of restructuring. Everyone is just burnt out and waiting for the other shoe to drop. Don't stress about hitting those Q4 targets; they are impossible with current staffing levels, and they know it. Update your resume now before the market gets flooded.

I wouldn't hold my breath for those roles to open up anytime soon. We’ve been running lean for three quarters and the official word from up top remains the same tired nonsense about 'operational efficiency.' It’s frustrating because we’re losing institutional knowledge every time someone leaves, but that doesn't seem to be a concern for the people at the top. Just do what you can within the hours you have and don't take the lack of progress personally. At this point, I’m just trying to keep my head down and collect the paycheck.
