It’s not just the purse strings tightening; the travel ban is basically locked down across our department. I tried to get a standard site visit approved for a client project and it was shot down immediately, no questions asked. Usually, they find the money if it’s client-facing, but now it’s just a flat 'no' unless it's critical. Combined with the fact that we have two open headcount spots that were supposedly 'urgent' back in Q1 but are now officially on hold, it really makes you wonder. I’m not saying there’s a massive RIF coming tomorrow, but the shift in policy is impossible to ignore. Is everyone else seeing a total freeze on non-essential spending, or is it just our division trying to make the margins look prettier for the next earnings report?

Same situation here. We’ve seen the exact same pattern in my division. Those 'urgent' roles were frozen weeks ago, and now even basic operational travel is getting flagged for executive review. It is honestly becoming a daily guessing game. I remember when we were being pushed to ramp up headcount as fast as possible, and now those same doors are bolted shut. The travel restrictions are just the cherry on top. It’s hard to stay motivated when you have legitimate project needs that require face-to-face interaction, only to have them blocked by a blanket policy. Everyone is reading the tea leaves, but the message seems clear enough: conserve cash and don’t expect any relief until management gives the green light. Hopefully, this is just a temporary correction, but the silence from the top is definitely fueling the rumor mill.
