Anyone else seeing a hiring freeze in action?

Just curious if anyone else has noticed a significant slowdown in hiring across different departments. My team's been trying to fill an open role for months now and HR keeps saying 'budget constraints' or 'internal review.' Seems like more than just a slow period. Applied for a position in engineering last week and got an automated rejection almost immediately, which is unusual for them. Wondering if this is a precursor to something bigger or just standard end-of-year budget shuffling. Anyone heard anything concrete from their managers or seen any internal comms about it?

I've been seeing similar things at A.O. Smith. Applied for a position a couple months ago and it seemed like they weren't even really interviewing anyone, just going through the motions. My manager hinted that budgets are tighter than usual and they're being very selective about new hires. Definitely feels like more than just end-of-year stuff. Heard some whispers about restructuring too, but who knows with these big companies. Hope it doesn't impact too many people.

Yeah, that immediate automated rejection is a pretty strong signal. They used to at least give people a chance for an initial screen. 'Budget constraints' is the classic HR line when things are tight or they're reassessing needs. It's possible they're consolidating roles or waiting for a clearer picture of next year's market before bringing on new talent. Might be worth checking if any internal mobility programs are still active if you're set on A.O. Smith.
